Physiotherapists are health professionals who focus on the restoration of function to improve quality of life. They assess and diagnose problems with human movement, then plan and administer treatment to restore function or minimise dysfunction after disease or injury. Studies include health science subjects, anatomy/physiology, and specialised areas such as movement analysis, manual techniques, exercise prescription and therapeutic massage. Clinical placements ensure students apply theory to practice in a range of settings, including rural, remote, tropical, national and international contexts. James Cook University
Prior to taking professional placements, students must provide evidence of immunity to hepatitis B, MMR, varicellla, and pertussis, and current Provide First Aid and CPR certificates. A Suitability Card is required and an Australian Federal Police check may be required; refer to institution. Students must complete all professional experience placement requirements by the prescribed deadlines and maintain currency of these requirements in order to stay admitted in the course.
